    Cette exposition présente des œuvres de Danae Io, Dóra Maurer, Marie-Françoise Plissart et Margaret Raspé, qui cadrent et mettent en séquence le quotidien à travers des dispositifs de création d'images qu'elles ont elles-mêmes conçus. Rigoureuses sur le plan formel et procédural, leurs œuvres n'en accueillent pas moins la contingence et l'intrusion des réalités du quotidien dans le cadre. C'est précisément parce qu'il existe une structure que peuvent surgir des moments de glissement, où le cadre ne tient plus.

Dans une culture contemporaine qui privilégie la vitesse et l'immédiateté, la force d'attraction de ces œuvres tient à leur souci de la médiation, perceptible dans les expérimentations des artistes avec les technologies de la photographie et de l'image en mouvement, où le corps sert souvent de prolongement quasi mécanique. Bien qu'elles puisent dans l'environnement immédiat des artistes, ces œuvres ne sont pas autobiographiques ; elles interrogent plutôt l'unité narrative de la biographie.

    This exhibition presents works by Danae Io, Dóra Maurer, Marie-Françoise Plissart and Margaret Raspé, who frame and sequence daily life through self-constructed image-making devices. Formally and procedurally rigorous, their works also embrace contingency and the interference of everyday realities into the frame. Having a structure in the first place allows for instances of slippage, where the frame does not hold.

Within today’s culture, which privileges speed and immediacy, the strong pull of these works stems from their concern with mediation, as seen in the artists’ experiments with photographic and moving-image technologies, often using their bodies as machine-like extensions. While they draw on the artists’ immediate environments, the works are not autobiographical; rather, they question the narrative unity of biography.

Cette publication se présente comme le post-scriptum de l'exposition de Simon Asencio Through The Valley of The Nest of Spiders pour SB34-The Pool à Bruxelles. Dédiée au roman de science-fiction et de sexutopie de Samuel R. Delany dont elle porte le titre, l'exposition a été pensée comme un processus d'annotation de ce livre, développant les formes éthiques mises en pratique par les personnages du récit, à travers des installations, des lectures et situations performatives, avec la complicité d'autres artistes. Cet objet interlope poursuit ce processus intertextuel, en prolongeant et disséminant les écritures forgées par l'exposition.

This publication acts as a postscriptum to the exhibition project Through The Valley of The Nest of Spiders by Simon Asencio for SB34-The Pool in Brussels. Dedicated to Samuel R. Delany's sci-fi and sexutopia novel, the exhibition was conceived as a process of annotating the book, expanding on the ethics discussed by the characters of the novel through installation, performative readings and with the complicity of other artists and their works. This devious object pursues such an intertextual process, extending and disseminating the writings forged by the exhibition.
