SPRING RESIDENCY - SILICE & CAPITONS

Hélène Moreau

Silice & Capitons is a long-term project by artist Hélène Moreau, investigating the role of reading aloud within a visual arts practice. The project unfolds through multiple entry points, moving between installation, set design, performance, poetry, and furniture design, within a framework conceived as an environment of hospitality. In this context, packaging foam can become a garment, a drawing, or a carpet. A sculpture turns into an accessory; a suspended element, when held in the hand, becomes a tool for focus and attention. Text accompanies these shifting forms, subtly modulating their evocative potential while itself evolving in response to the works and the presence of audiences.

The residency at SB34 concorde marks a reflective phase situated between two stages of research and writing developed around the performative and activatable piece Module de lecture, created at Théâtre Le Boson in Ixelles. This project was preceded by an initial research period in Marseille between 2024 and 2025, supported by Voyons at La Voilerie Phocéenne. 

Two reading sessions were performed in front of the audience, during which the artist activated and gradually unfolded the installation in direct relation to the act of reading. Visitors were invited to read aloud as well, entering a shared rhythm in which roles and positions remained flexible, allowing space for the installation to emerge and transform.

The audience was also encouraged to engage physically with certain elements, including concrete components, fostering a multisensory experience that intertwined touch, sound, and spatial perception. A suspended sail subtly reconfigured the atmosphere of the space, filtering light and altering its tonal qualities, while surrounding textiles further modulated the chromatic environment, shifting the perception of environnement throughout the session.


During the residency, Valentine Siboni was invited as an external observer, offering Hélène Moreau the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with a practitioner working across both theatre and visual arts contexts. This exchange provided a valuable perspective on the different formats of artistic residencies and their implications for interdisciplinary practice. ︎ ABOUT

HÉLÈNE MOREAU (b. 1985, Argenteuil, France) is a visual artist based in Brussels, where she is a member of the collective studio LaGriffe. She graduated from the DNSEP at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in 2009, and completed a joint master’s degree between ARBA-ESA and the Université libre de Bruxelles in 2011. 

In 2022, she published Le Bruit de l’échantillonneuse – Partition de lecture (La Houle Éditions), a series of texts linked to an installation, activated through reading-performances in Brussels and Paris. The book was nominated for the ADAGP “Prix Révélation Livre d’Artiste”.

Her ongoing project Silice & Capitons combines writing, reading, and sculptural forms through performances, installations, and activated objects in Brussels and Marseille (2024–2025), including residencies and presentations at La Centrale, ADAF, VoyonsVoir / Marseille, and SoloSola.
